This is an experimental feature for our advanced livestreamers and may be less reliable and subject to change. We do not provide direct support for experimental features and do not recommend them for new users.
Using Open Broadcast Studio (OBS) allows you to produce a merged live feed and send to sidelineHD or to stream a previously recorded game to sidelineHD. The recommendations in this article are based on the article from Restream.io
Streaming to OBS is an advanced, experimental feature. Moving forward, we assume that you:
- Have an account on sidelineHD and have successfully published a sidelineHD game to Facebook or YouTube via RTMP
- Know how to use OBS to stream to an RTMP destination
To find your sidelineHD stream key:
We assign each advanced camera its own RTMP stream key. Streams sent to these keyed destinations automatically go LIVE on sidelineHD.
- Login to your sidelineHD account
- Select the Team Card you are streaming for
- Select Settings
- Select Stream Settings
- Select Camera Settings
- Select your Advanced Camera
- If you don't have one listed, learn to create one in our Streaming with an Unlisted Camera article
- Click the three dots next to your camera selection
- Select Advanced Settings
- Copy and past your Stream URL and Stream Key where needed!
- Some services may refer to the Stream URL as Server. If you see server, past your Stream URL here.
SLHD TIP (RTMP vs RTMPS):
This is an RTMPS key. Some platforms do better with RTMP (unencrypted stream) instead of RTMPS. To convert to RTMP URL, make these manual edits to the Stream URL:
- Replace rtmps:// with rtmp://
- Replace :443 with :1935
We recommend that you use the RTMP version.
Adjusting OBS Settings:
After pasting your Stream URL and Stream Key from the steps above, you may want to adjust your settings on OBS. We suggest setting your Output Settings and Color Settings as shown below.

Monitoring your stream's health:
Monitoring your stream's health is important for a consistent for a good, consistent livestream. We find that the bottom of this Restream.io article has a good summary of how to monitor OBS. We suggest keeping an eye out for:
- Dropped Frames
- CPU Load
- Stream Indicator
SLHD TIP:
There is a known issue where some encoding settings cause delays in YT accepting the livestream.
Syncing livestream timings:
Video switcers, bonding services and mixing software can all introduce timing delays (video buffering) in your video streams. These delays can affect the timing of sidelineHD scoreboards and overlays. If it seems that your scoreboards are ahead of your stream and "predicting" what's about about to happen in the game, it's a good sign that buffering is occurring. Try calibrating your camera to sync up your livestream timing.
