Stream Warning Messages

This article outlines what to do when you receive a Stream Warning Messages and how to prevent these from becoming a regular occurrence.

What to Do

When you receive a stream warning message from sidelineHD it is to alert you that your internet connection is poor and not fast enough to support your current video resolution. This can result in issues with stream quality.

If you receive a stream warning text from sidelineHD, we suggest lowering your video resolution to help your internet connection keep up with your livestream. Please keep in mind, changing video resolution during a stream can cause the stream to go down briefly before resuming.

There are different ways to change your video resolution depending on where you are streaming to:

Streaming with sidelineHD App

  1. During your livestream, select the Drop Down Arrow next to your team name/stream time
  2. Select the resolution you wish to change to
  3. That's it! The stream will automatically resume streaming at the newly selected resolution

Streaming with GoPro

  1. In the GoPro Quick app, disconnect your GoPro camera
  2. Select Resolution
  3. Select the resolution you wish to change to
  4. Select Set up Live Stream

For additional help, we suggest looking at GoPro Resources.

Streaming with Larix Broadcaster App

  1. In the Larix Broadcaster app, stop streaming
  2. Select the Gear icon
  3. Select Camera
  4. Select Resolution
  5. Select the resolution you wish to change to
    • Example, if you are currently streaming at 1080, choose 720, streaming at 720, choose 540

For additional help, we suggest looking at Larix Resources.

Streaming with Mevo

  1. In the Mevo app, disconnect your Mevo camera
  2. When you go live again, select Stream (this is your resolution)
  3. Select the resolution you wish to change to
  4. Select Go Live

For additional help, we suggest looking at Mevo Resources.

Video Tutorial

Is there a preferred resolution range for streams?

We accept H.264 RTMP with image size of 360p to 1080p. Incoming streams should be 30 frames/second at data rates of up to 6Mbit. Streams that are outside of these specifications may have poor quality and be rejected.

Can I stream at 1080p?

While we accept streams up to 1080p, stream outputs are limited to 720p unless that team has a PRO for Teams subscription. You can stream to us at 1080p but the output is 720p unless the team has a PRO for Teams subscription and they stream to sidelineHD at 1080p, the output is 1080p.

Can I stream higher than 1080p?

Streams higher than 1080 or 30 fps are not supported by sidelineHD. To continue using sidelineHD, just change your camera settings to be 1080p (or less) and 30fps (or less).

Do you accept HEVC?

Yes, we accept HEVC which requires less bandwidth than H.264. Some streaming options, like the sidelineHD app and Mevo, automatically use HEVC when streaming to sidelineHD.

Is there a maximum stream length?

Streams have a maximum duration of 4 hours, exceeding this time limit may cause your stream to be disconnected.  For doubleheaders or longer events, we suggest breaking your invent into multiple streams by taking your stream down for 5 minutes.
