BETA- Scoring Tutorial for Advanced Scoring Module Baseball and Softball - BETA

This tutorial walks you through how to enable and use Advanced Scoring in a live game. You’ll learn how to track pitches, record plays, manage base runners, and complete a full game.

Advanced Scoring is designed to automate scoring while giving you control over detailed game actions.

Advanced scoring is in BETA. Some features and stats may not be available yet.

Features such as End of Game Highlight Videos, HitScope, and other advanced post-game features may not be supported when using Advanced Scoring at this time while development continues.


Important: Advanced Scoring Behavior

Once Advanced Scoring is enabled for a team, it stays enabled for that team going forward.

However, you can switch back to Basic Scoring at any time in team scoring settings.

Key points:

  • Advanced Scoring is a team-level setting (not per game)
  • It applies to all future games once enabled
  • You can revert to Basic Scoring anytime without affecting past games
  • Record hit details - Toggle on to record hit type and direction following every ball in play
    • Note this setting is enabled within a game, but once it is enabled it is enabled for every following game but can be turned off at anytime while scoring a game and applies to all games going forward
  • It is important to select Ball in play when the ball is hit, then watch the play finish and continue scoring the play.  

Activate Advanced Scoring-  BETA

  1. Login to your sidelineHD Account
  2. Select the Team Card
  3. Select Settings in the top right corner
  4. Select Scoring Settings
  5. Select Scoring Module 
  6. Select Advanced

Understand the Advanced Scoring Screen

At the top section of the screen, you will see:

  • Score (both teams)
  • Inning (Top / Bottom)
  • Balls, strikes, and outs
  • Bases
  • Current pitcher and pitch count
  • Current batter and On Deck Batter ( on the bottom) 

     

Main Controls

  • Gear Icon – Game settings: Manual override, end game or pause scoring, 
  • Scoring Tab – Live scoring
  • Game Tab – Lineups and stats
  • Connection Icon – Stream status, Mute/Unmute stream, game link sharing, and Stream Styling

Entering The Lineups

  1. Login to your sidelineHD account
  2. Click on the Team Card of the team that you are going to score for
  3. On the Schedules tab of the team page, select the Game Card for the game you are scoring
    • If you have not created the game yet you can do so now by creating a game 
    • Select Enter Lineup 
      • You can choose use previous game lineup if available or create a new lineup from scratch
      • Enter your lineup and select your players in the order they will be batting. 
      • You can drag and drop them as needed if you select them in the wrong order by pressing and holding the left side with the 6 dots of each player card to move them up or down.
    • Select Save 
    • Select the Opponents Lineup Tab (Optional) if you are entering your opponents lineup
      • Enter your opponents lineup. (Optional, you do not have to enter your opponents lineup
      • You will need to create your opponent players in the lineup, one player at a time, Jersey number (optional) and Player Name
      • Once all opponents players lineup has been entered Select Save
      • Select the X in the top right corner to close this screen
      • Once you have entered the lineup, the Set Lineup button within the game card will change to Edit Lineup which allows you to edit the lineup at anytime before starting the game 
    • You can also start the game without entering the lineup ahead of time and enter it on the fly as the players come up to bat.

SLHD Tip: Opponent's Lineup: 

Entering your opponents lineup is optional. If you do not enter the opponents lineup you will see a generic player


If you enter your opponents lineup, if your team is batted out you will be prompted to tag the fielder by name/number but you can choose to skip the player tag, scroll to the bottom and skip.  

 


Scoring a Baseball or Softball Game Using Advanced Scoring- BETA

  1. Login to your sidelineHD account on the app
  2. Click on the Team Card of the team that you are going to score for
  3. On the Schedules tab of the team page, select the Game Card for the game you are scoring
    • If you have not created the game yet you can do so now by creating a game
       
  4. Select Start Advanced Scoring
  5. Select if you are the Home or Away team 
  6. Select Start Game when the game starts
  7. You will be prompted to select the Pitcher for your team if you are the home team
    • If you are the away team and did not enter your lineup, you will be asked to select your first batter

Score Each Pitch: During each at-bat, record every pitch:

  • Ball
  • Called Strike
  • Swinging Strike
  • Foul 
  • Ball in Play
  • More ...    

 

SLHD Tip: Undo button: 

Select Undo to reverse the last action, Each press of Undo undoes the last action taken 

 

Automatic Game Logic:

  • 4 balls = walk (batter and runners advance automatically)
  • 3 strikes = strikeout (batter is out and an out is recorded)
  • Foul = adds a foul and adds a strike (unless already 2 strikes)
  • On the last out of an inning, you will be asked to confirm flip to next 1/2 inning 

Record a Ball in Play

Imporant: Pressing ball in play

It is important to select Ball in play when the ball is hit, then watch the play finish and continue scoring the play.

 

When the batter puts the ball in play:

  1. Select Ball in Play
  2. Select the play result:
    • Out (Groundout, Flyout, Lineout, Double Play, Triple Play, Sacrifice Fly, Sacrifice Bunt)
    • Reached Base (Single, Double, Triple, Home Run, Error)
    • Other (Fielders Choice) when available, can result in safe or out play.
  3. Tap on the screen to the location where the ball was hit and you can confirm or select hit type Fly Ball, Ground ball or Line Drive and select Continue (Ball location and hit type can be turned off in game settings)
  4. If “Out” is selected:
    • you will be prompted to tag players involved and finish play
    • Players are listed in order by jersey number
    • Select all the players involved in getting the out
    • If you don't know who was involved you can always scroll to the bottom and press skip
    • If you entered your opponents lineup you will be asked to tag your opponents players if they make an out, but you can scroll to the bottom and skip the tag players for each play if you'd prefer
  5. If the Batter Reaches Base: The system will:
    • Place the batter on base automatically
    • Prompt you to confirm base runner positions that you see and you will need to finish the play
    • Update the score and advance the players accordingly
  6. At the end of the play you will be asked to confirm what you see on the field (the players on bases) with a couple of options to select
    • Select the correct option 
    • If the what you see on the field is not displayed on the screen, select Other and select what you see and Finish the Play
  7. Continue on for each batter and inning until the game is over
  8. When the game is over
    • Select the Gear Icon in the top left
    • Select End Game 
      • End Game - Ending the game is final and cannot be undone.
      • Pause Scoring -  Pause scoring to continue scoring the game later

Use the “More” button for outcomes listed below

Select More ...  to record these plays:

  • Hit By Pitch
  • Dropped Third Strike
  • Catcher’s Interference
  • Balk

Dropped Third Strike Options

  • Out
    • If “Out” is selected, you will be prompted to tag players involved and finish play.
      • Example: You will be prompted to tag any players involved in the drop third strike, i.e. the catcher and first baseman. players are listed in order by jersey number, you would select the players involved in the out from the list and select Finish Play
  • Reached on passed ball
  • Reached on wild pitch

 

SLHD Tip: Scoring ledger: 

You can click the scoring ledger to look back on what you have already scored and review game history

 


Manage Lineups During the Game

Go to the Game Tab to:

  • Review Stats- Box Score 
  • My Lineup 
  • Opponent Lineup  (if entered)
    • View and edit your lineup or your opponents lineup
    • Sub out batters
    • Add players to lineup if you did not enter a lineup
  • Review box score
  • You can also sub out Current Pitcher, At-Bat batter and On-Deck batter from the scoring screen as well. This is a legal substitution for the batters replacing the new player in that lineup spot.
  • You can use the manual override under the gear settings to the correct player if for some reason the wrong player is showing as the batter. 

 

Track Base Runner Movement

During the game, you can update runners when they advance, get caught stealing or get swapped out.

  • Tap a runner on base (1st, 2nd, or 3rd)
  • What happened to the runner? 
  • Advanced:
    • Stolen base
    • Passed ball
    • Wild pitch
    • Advanced on last play

       The runner will advance to the next base

  • Out
  • Picked off 
  • Caught stealing
  • Out on last play
    • For outs, You will be asked to tag defensive players credit for the out 
    • Select all the players involved in getting the out
    • Select Finish Play 

       

  • Replaced: 
    • Pinch Runner 
    • Courtesy Runner
  • Pinch Runners - is a legal substitution, selecting a pinch runner will replace that batter/runner with the player you select in the batting order
    • To replace a runner for a pinch runner 
    • Select the runner on the base
    • Select Pinch Runner
    • Select the player from the list who will be the pinch runner
    • Select Confirm at the bottom of the screen 
       
  • Courtesy runners can replace runners on the bases (typically used for pitchers and catchers)
    • To swap a runner out and put in courtesy runner
    • Select the runner on the base
    • Select Courtesy Runner
    • Select the player from the list who will be the Courtesy runner
    • Select Confirm at the bottom of the screen 

Gear Icon

  • Game Settings screen Select the X to exit out of this screen if no changes are being made to go back to scoring screen
    • Record Hit Details Toggle: Toggle on of off to record hit type and direction following every ball in play
      • Once turned on for a game, it is turned on for all games going forward, Can be turned off and back on at any time. 
    • Manual Game Override:
      • Flip to Next half inning
      • Reset Manually - Manually override the following
        • Score, Inning, top or bottom, Balls, Strikes, Outs, Batter, Pitcher and Baserunners.
        • Select Save for any changes to save
        • You will be returned to the scoring screen once you press save.
    • End Game
      • End Game - Ending the game is final and cannot be undone.
      • Pause Scoring Pause scoring to continue scoring the game later

 

Web Connection Icon & Speaker Icon

  •  Web connection button will display as green when stream is up and red when stream is down
  • Speaker icon - indicates if your stream is muted or unmuted from within the scoring app
    Selecting the web connection button will popup buttons to select and display the following:
    • Stream Health - Stream is up(green), Stream unheathly (Yellow) or Stream is down (red)
    • Share button - To share the game link - copy game link or share it using your native share sheet
    • Mute Button - To mute or unmute your stream 
    • Stream Styling - You can change you scoreboard style design right from the scoring controller
      • Choose from Default Full size, Corner or Minimal.
